John Klein is an Australian still life artist whose paintings celebrate beauty. Working in both acrylic and oil, he creates richly layered compositions that combine technical precision with a painterly sensitivity to light, texture, and colour.

At the heart of John's practice is his extensive collection of Art Deco objects, gathered over many years. These treasured pieces form the foundation of many of his still life paintings, each selected for its distinctive form, history and decorative beauty. Complementing these vintage objects are seasonal flowers, many grown in John's own garden, bringing freshness, vitality, and a deeply personal connection to every composition.

Whilst sometimes appearing decorative in nature, art collectors readily engage with John’s work through the deeper commentary on significant craftsmanship and tradition. John seeks to document and highlight a discussion about both quality design in our everyday utilitarian items, along with the restorative force of the bloom - a life force in nature.

John's creative journey began with studies in Film and Television at North Sydney TAFE, followed by a Graduate Diploma in Arts Management from the University of Technology Sydney. Committed to continually developing his artistic practice, he regularly participates in workshops and master classes with artists whose work inspires him. This ongoing pursuit of learning informs his evolving approach to painting while maintaining a strong foundation in traditional still life.

Before dedicating himself to painting, John enjoyed a successful career in marketing, where he developed a keen understanding of visual communication, branding, and design. In 2021, he made the decision to pursue his lifelong passion for art as a full-time artist, bringing together his creative experience, design sensibility, and love of collecting to establish a distinctive artistic practice.

John's work has been recognised through selection as a finalist in numerous prestigious Australian art prizes including Mosman Art Prize, Hunters Hill Art Prize, Kennedy Prize and the Archibald Prize Salon des Refusés. His paintings are held in private collections throughout Australia and internationally reflecting the broad appeal of his distinctive still life practice.

Beyond the gallery, John's paintings have been licensed across a diverse range of products, extending his artistic vision into everyday life. His imagery has appeared on stationery, homewares and fashion accessories, introducing his work to audiences beyond the traditional fine art market.
